Young is in contract negotiations with the city of Alexandria, Va. I think we have some incredibly talented staff people. Greensboro City Council members said they were disappointed but not surprised Young is being lured away by another city. I just wish we could have hung on to him longer.

Young was hired in to replace Mitchell Johnson. Young came from Dayton, Ohio, as a year-old with three years experience as a city manager. He is known for his friendly and approachable style. His time at the city has been fraught with difficult issues — from multi-million dollar budget deficits to the departure of the city attorney , who left when the council took management of her position away from Young.

Residents and some council members have raised concerns that the council has micromanaged Young, but he said Wednesday that politics did not play into his decision to leave Greensboro. He is very articulate and well-spoken. We have a good laugh at that. Greensboro council members said Wednesday that they did not have any plans to try to entice Young to stay with a better salary or other benefits.
